How to Set & Achieve Goals + 4 Goal-Setting Printables

A study done by Statistic Brain says that "92% of New Year’s goals end in failure - in fact, 25% of goal setters gave up during the first week”.

It is important to know that you can set and accomplish goals at any point in the year.

Far too often we get caught up in the “I’ll start that next Monday” mind-set. With a blink of an eye, years of next Monday’s pass with little progress.

The big question is, if not NOW, then when?

I have come to find that if we wait until we are motivated to start our goals, the chances of us actually accomplishing them drastically decreases. i recommend checking out Mel Robbins “5 second rule”, as she best describes how to overcome our procrastinations and excuses. You can check out a quick video on the 5 second rule here.

If you really want something, you’ll find a way. If you don’t, you’ll find an excuse

I believe that we should set “stretch goals” for ourselves. Stretch goals are just a little higher than what we think we can achieve. Breaking your goals down into smaller actions could help ensure you achieve your goals.

Goal Setting Tips

Brain Dump

When you begin your goal-setting process, I recommend thinking about what you want the theme of your year to be. It can be anything from love, forgiveness, abundance, you name it!
From there, just let your mind spill onto your paper and jot down all that you want to accomplish, without thinking about how you’re going to do it. This is called a brain-dump or stream of consciousness as we like to call it. This practice is especially great at decluttering your mind and can be used in multiple areas of your life.

Your WHY Statement

Now that you have a rough draft of your goals, it is imperative to think about why you want to reach these goals. Your why statement is one of the most important tools in self-development. Your WHY will keep you driven and remind you why you are working as hard as you are to bring about change in your life. I recommend having your why in a place that you will see every day. Your why can be impactful statements such as, “provide financial freedom for myself and my family” or a collection of photos that will keep you motivated. i.e photos of your children or family members, etc.

Categorize Your Goals

When you look over your stream of consciousness, you’ll notice that you have goals that can be grouped together. Seeing everything broken down into categories can create a sense of organization and attainability. This process then makes it easier to break it down even further into action steps.

Habits & Action Steps

While writing out all of your goals is a great start, taking action is just as important as your why statement in our opinion. Once you have your goals broken down and organized, I recommend choosing 3 goals from any category that you want to focus on first. As you can see from the template above, you want to write out why you want this individual goal and 3 small steps you can take to achieve it. For example, if it is your goal to eat healthier, 3 steps you can take can be anything from: making at least one home cooked meal a day, trying to buy organic foods when possible, or cutting out soda and replacing it with sparkling water.

Whatever your goals and small-steps are, it is important to put them in your calendar so that you are more willing to take action. Physically logging when you are going to prep and make certain meals, or when you will work-out, will give you a sense of control and structure in your day-to day that is necessary to juggle the many demands of life.

While many people recommend setting a completion date for their goals, we recommend the opposite. Many people tend to feel intimidated and pressured when given a specific deadline and that can lead to regret and disappointment if the goal is not met. I think it is important to give yourself a time frame, not a time limit. forgive yourself if you miss a day. Tomorrow is a chance to start anew.

You got this. You are worthy of it all.

As Always,

We wish you love, light, & many blessings to you on your journey.
